Mr. Meissner LOVES to go grocery shopping! While at the grocery store, Mr. Meissner bought a juicy steak that weighed 4.75 pounds for $3.89 per pound, 4 dozen eggs for $1.05 per dozen, 2 gallons of milk for $1.99 per gallon, and 3 loaves of bread for $1.79 per loaf. How much did Mr. Meissner spend at the grocery store?
**Remember how many decimal places money has!!!**
Mr. Meissner spent $32.92 in the grocery store i know this because after multiplying the different prices and rounding i added each of the prices for each item i got the the total.
How EXACTLY did you round each of the values??
the answer is 13.47 because if you add up all the prices plus tax you will get 13.47] 4.75+3.89+1.05+1.99+1.79 and you will get 13.47.
Does it matter that Mr. Meissner buys multiple items at each price point?
$32.03
How did you find your solution?
32.275
How did you find your solution?
First I multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 which equals 18.4775 and then i rounded it to 18.48. Then I multiplied 4 by 1.05 which equals 4.20. Next I 1.99 by 2= 3.98. Then I multiplied 3 by 1.79 = 5.37
Lastly I added all the products together and got 32.03
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03
okay with the steak in at 4,75 pounds I multiplied the number by 4 rather than $3.89 because Im supposed to round?? but yea, the answer to that was $19……and with the eggs he bought 4 dozen with the price for 1 dozen is $1 with the round so $4 eggs…..now the 2 gallons of milk with the 2$ for one gallon and that price is 4$….now this MAN needs 3 loaves of bread, I hope he dosen’t eat for a while after this the price for the bread is around 6$ now the total is (drum roll please) around $30!!!!
Mr. Meissner has 12 dollars and 55 cents.;)
How did you find your solution?
the answer i got was $34.00 for all the total items. i got this answer by rounding the amounts to the nearest amount. first i multiplied 5 by $4.00 to get the amount of the steak which was $20.00. then i multiplied 4 by $1.00 to get the amount of the eggs. the answer i got was $4.00. after that i multiplied $2.00 by 2 for the amount of the mile. which was $4.00. after i did that i multiplied $2.00 by 3 to get the total amount for the milk. which was $6.00 in the end. and last but not least i added all the amounts together to get the total, and the total was $34.00 flat. and that’s how i got my answer 🙂
Why did you choose to round the weights and the money?
If Mr. Meissner pays $3.89 per pound on steak and the steak ways 4.75 pound he payed $18.47 for the steak.
If Mr. meissner pay $1.05 for a dozen eggs and he wants to buy 4 dozen eggs his total for the eggs is $4.20for the eggs.
If Mr. meissner wants to buy 2 gallons of milk each gallon of milk costs $1.99 he would be paying $3.98 for the milk.
Mr. meissner wants to buy 3 loafs of bread for $1.79 per loaf he would pay $5.79 for the bread
Mr. meissner total is $32.44
Remember when you round that if the number is 5 or greater you round up! You need to pay close attention to details when you are rounding!
YOU HAVE TO TIMES 4.75/3.89 AND IT EQUALS $1.22 AND THE YOU TIMES $1.05 TIMES BY 4 AND YOU GET $04.2 THEN YOU TIMES $1.99 TIMES BY 2 AND YOU GET $3.98 THEN YOU TIMES 1.97 TIMES 1 AND YOU GET 1.79.
How much did Mr. Meissner spend? Does it make sense to DIVIDE?
first i times all the cost and all the food that they were buying and than once i found my answers by multipling i added them all up and my correct answer was 32.05
HOW did you find your solution?
So fist what i did is skip down to the egg and did $1.05 times 4 and got $4.20 then i did 2 gallons of milk times $1.99 and got $3.98 then i round it and got $4 then i times 3 loaves of bread by $1.79 and got $5.37 and then i round it and got $5.4 then i did the steak and did 4 pounds and got $15.59 and then round it to 15.60 but that only 4 pounds will still have .75 left so then i $1.92 and i round it a got $1.8. After that i add all then up and got $31.00.
The total comes out as $32.35 because you have to multiply each pair of numbers such as him buying 4 dozen for $1.05 a dozen is $4.20 and them with the other pairs which comes out after rounding to $32.35.
How EXACTLY did you round in this problem?
what i did was i multiplyed each money amount per unit by the number of items bought giving me $32.03
Work:
4.75(3.89)+4(1.05)+2(1.99)+3(1.79)=32.03 that was the amount MR meissner spent at the grocery store.
1st I multiply the total amount for all the food that Mr.Messner bought and once I got the total I added all of them up and got 32.0275
How many decimal places does money have?
the answer would be 32.98. what I did was I first rounded 4.75 to 5 pounds then multiplied that by 3.89 and got 19.42 and multiplied the others by there costs then added the costs together and got 32.98 as my answer
Why did you chose to round the weight? How did you round the other values?
Mr.Meissner spent $32.03 on groceries, I got that answer by finding the value for each food, for the steak I multiplied 3.89 by 4 and 0.75 of the pounds would cost 2.92 when rounded, the eggs were 4.20 dollars, the milk was 3.98 dollars, and the bread was 5.37 dollars, when you add that up you get a total of $32.03,
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 in the grocery store.
How did you find your solution?
He spent $32.03. I got this by multiplying the price by the pound/gallon/etc and then I added them all together and got 32.02778 and then I rounded that to $32.03 since that was too many decimal places for money.
he spent about 26 dollars at the store
How did you find your solution?
mister mismer spent $28.36
How did you find your solution?
what is did was i multiplyed each unit and i got $32.03
work
4.75(3.89)=18.48
4(1.05)=4.20
2(1.99)=3.98
3(1.79)=5.37
=32.03
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03. I got this answer by figuring out how much he spent for each item, then add those together.
How did you find your solution?
First I multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 to find the price of the steak. The answer I got was 18.4775, so I rounded that to 18.48. The steak costs $18.48. Then I multiplied 4 by 1.05 to find the total cost of the eggs, the total cost of the eggs is $4.20. I multiplied 1.99 by 2 to find the cost of the milk, the cost of the milk is $3.98. Then I multiplied 1.79 by 3 to find the cost of the bread, which was $5.37. Lastly, I added all the numbers together to find the total cost. Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 cents at the grocery store.
The steak costs $18.48. The eggs cost $4.20. The milk costs $3.98. The loaves of bread costs $5.37. The total is $32.03 (Not including tax)
Mr. Meissner spent $36.46 To get my answer first I, multiplied the number of pounds by the cost per pound. Next, I multiplied 4 by the cost per dozen. Then, I multiplied 2 gallons by 1.99 (the cost per gallon.) after that, I multiplied 3 loaves by the cost per loaf. Last i added everything up.
How did you round your decimals?

How did you find your answer Skylar? Please LOG IN to the blog when you submit your answers!
I got the answer of $32.00. I found this out by doing 4.75 rounded up to 5 multiplied by 4 dollars because that’s 3.89 rounded up. and got a total of 20 dollars. then I did 4 times 1.05 rounded down to 1.00 dollar and got 4 dollars. next I did 1.99 rounded up to 2 dollars times 2 gallons and got 4.00. then I did 3 times 2.00 dollars because that is $1.79 rounded up and got 6 dollars. Last I did $20.00 plus $4.00 plus $4.00 plus $6.00 and got the answer of $32.00.
If you round to the nearest dollar, Mr. Meissner may not bring enough money to pay the bill!
This is how i got my answer :
Steak:4.79×3.89= $18.48
Eggs:4×1.05=$4.20
Milk: 2×1.99=$3.98
Bread:3×1.79=$5.37
Then you add them and the total is $32.07.
🙂 😉
Mr. Meissner spent $34.00 at the grocery store
Work: I rounded 4.75 to 5 and then rounded $3.89 to $4.00 and got $20.00 then I rounded $ 1.05 to $1.00 and kept the 4 and got $4.00 then i rounded $1.99 to $2.00 and kept the 2 and got $4.00 and then i rounded $1.79 to $2.00 and kept the 3 and got $6.00 and then i added them all up and got $34.00.
Why did you decide to round both the money and the weight values? Why did you round to the nearest dollar instead of to the nearest cent?
First, round the numbers to the nearest unit so 4.75 will be 5 and $3.89 will be 4. You multiply 5 and 4 and get 20 dollars on steak alone. Move on to the eggs. 4 will stay the same and 1.05 will be one dollar. Multiply 4 and 1 and get 4 dollars. Move an to gallons of milk. 2 will stay the same because it’s a whole number and $1.99 will be 2 dollars. Multiply 2 and 2 and get 4. The grand finally: add 20 and 4 and 4 and get (drumroll please) 28 dollars. So, Mr.Meissner will spend 28 dollars (plus tax)
If you round money down, are you sure Mr. Meissner will bring enough money to pay the bill?
I rounded all the numbers up and multiplied by the number of units
and then added all my answers and my final answer was $32.33.
I also multiplied all units by the price. Then added them together and rounded to $32.03.
Which answer is the correct answer? How EXACTLY did you find your answer?
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 at the grocery store. How I got this was for each product that he bought, I multiplied the original price by the amount he actually got, for example, I multiplied 4.75 pounds by $3.89 to get the price of the steak. I did this for all of the other products Mr. Meissner bought and got $18.48 for the steak, $4.20 for the eggs, $3.98 for the milk, and $5.37 for the bread. I added all of the prices up and got the total price, $32.03.
I got the answer 32.05 I know because I multiplied 4.75 and 3.89 and got 18.47 then I rounded it up to 18.5 then i multiplied four and 1.05 and got 4.2 then multiplied 1.99 and 2 and got 3.98then i multiplied 1.79and 3 and got 5.37 finally I added them and got $32.05.
Me.meissner spend 8.72 dollars at the grocery store because if 3.89+1.05+1.99+1.79 it will equal 8.72 dollars that meissner spend at the grocery store for a juicy steak for weighed 4.75 pounds,4 dozen eggs per dozen,2 gallons of milk and 3 loaves of bread per loaf.
Does it matter that he buys multiple items at each price point?
First found out how much money each amount of items cost by multiplying the number of items by the cost for one item. So I got $18.48 for the steak, $4.20 for the eggs, $3.98 for the milk, and $5.37 for the bread. Then I added this all and got $32.03 which is how much Mr.Meissner spent at the grocery store.
in total he spent 23.25 dollars at the store ho i got this was it took all the prces nd added them tgether .
How did you find your solution?
In total he spent $23.25 at te store
How did you find your solution?
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 at the grocery store. First, I multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 and got 18.4775. Then, I rounded the number to 18.48. After, I multiplied 4 by 1.05 and got 4.20. I also multiplied 1.99 by 2 and got 3.98. After that I multiplied 3 and 1.79 which equaled 5.37. Lastly, I added all the numbers and got $32.03.
32.03
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 at the grocery store.
How did you find your solution?
I multiplied 4.75 Ibs. by $3.89 and got $18.48.Then I multiplied 4 dozen eggs by $1.05 a dozen and came to a total of $4.20.Next I multiplied 2 gallons of milk by $1.99 and got $3.98.Lastly I multiplied 3 loaves of bread by $1.79 and got $5.37.Finally i added all of the answers and came to a total of $32.03.
My answer was Mr.Meissner spent $29.30 i got this answer because
1.) I rounded 4.75 to 5 LBS. and i rounded 3.89 up to 3.90 and multiplied 3.90 by 5 and my answer was $19.50.
2.) I then rounded $1.05 to $1.10 and then i multiplied $1.10 by 4 and my answer was $4.40.
3.)After, I had rounded $1.99 – $2.00 and i multiplied that by 2 and my answer was $4.00.
4.)And the last thing i had done was I rounded $1.79 – $1.80 and i multiplied that by 3 and my answer was $5.40
That is how i got my answer (:
Why did you choose to round the money and the weights?
I need to multiply first to get how much each item is.
Steak. 4.75 lbs x $3.89/lb =18.4775 and round to $18.48
Eggs 4 x $1.05 per dozen = $4.20
Milk 2 x $1.99/gallon = $3.98
Bread 3 x $1.79/ loaf = $5.37
Added together is $32.03 that Mr. Meissner spent
First I multiplied $4.75 by 3.89 to find out how much the juicy steak cost and I got $18.47. Then I multiplied $1.05 by 4 to find out how much 4 dozens of eggs cost and I got $4.20. Next I multiplied $1.99 by 2 to see how much 2 gallons of milk cost and I got $3.98. Then I multiplied $1.79 by 3 to figure out how much 3 loads of bread cost and I got $5.37. Lastly I added 18.47+$4.20+$3.98+$5.37 and the total was $32.02
Remember that when you round, if the number is 5 or more you round up! You need to pay close attention to the details when you are rounding!
Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 at the grocery store.First I multiplied 3.89 by 4.75 because it was 3.89 dollars for every pound. I got 18.4775. Then I multiplied 1.05 by 4 and I got 4.20. After that I multiplied 1.99 by 2 and I got 3.98. Then I multiplied 1.79 by 3 and I got 5.37. I added 5.37, 3.98, 4.20, and 18.4775 together and ended up with 32.0275. I rounded that to 32.03. That means that Mr. Meissner spent $32.03 at the store.
First, I calculated how much was 4 pounds of the steak which was $15.56 for the 4 pounds. Then, I calculated how much he paid the $0.75 of the steak which was $2.92 and I added up the $2.92 with the $15.56 for the 4 pounds of the steak and I got $18.48. The I multiplied the 4 dozen of eggs by the $1.05 per dozen and I got $4.20. Then, for the gallons of milk I multiplied the 2 gallons of milk by the $1.99 cost per gallon and I got $3.98, and for the bread I multiplied 3 loaves of bread by the $1.79 cost per loaf and I got 5.37. When I added them all up to see how much Mr.Meissner spent at the grocery store and I got $32.03
my answer was 32.02 dollars in total because i took the steak $4.75 by 3.89 and got 18.47. then i multiplied the eggs 4 dozens by 1.05 per dozen and got $4.20. after i multiplied the milk 2 gallons by 1.99 and got $3.99. Finally i multiplied 3 loaves of bread by 1.79 and got 5.37 and i took all those numbers and added themall together to get my total of $32.02.
Remember that when you round numbers, if the number is 5 or more, you round up. You need pay close attention to the details when you are rounding!
my total amount was $34.00 for all the grocerys. I had rounded the numbers and multiplied it by how many ever there was for that idem. then after I got all those answers, I added them all together and that’s how I got my answer.
How did you round the numbers?
$32.02 is how much money he spent at the store.
How did you find your solution Makayla?
Mr. Meissner spent a total of $34.40. I found this out by first rounding all the decimals to the nearest tenth or the nearest hole number. Then i multiplyed the price (rounded to the nearest whole number) by how much of the pruduct they bought. then when i did that for all the food items they bought and then added them together and got a estimated price of $34.40.
Rounding to the nearest tenth and rounding to the nearest whole number are two different strategies! What did you round to the nearest whole number and why did you decide to do that?
I rounded the weight of the steak to 5 lbs. and the price to $4. So, he paid $20 for the steak. Then I multiplied 4 by 1.05 and got $4.20. Then I rounded the price of a gallon of milk to $2. I multiplied 2 by 2 and got $4. I then rounded the price of a loaf of bread to $2. I multiplied 2 by 3 and got $6. Then I added $20, $4.20, $2,$4,$6 and got $36.2. Mr.Meissner spent a total of $36.2.
I got $32.03 because i multiplied 4.75 to $3.89 and i got 18.4775 then i multiplied 4 and $1.05 and i got 4.20 then i multiplied 2 and $1.99 and i got 3.98 and lastly i multiplied 3 and $1.79 and my answer was 5.37. so i added 18.4775 , 4.20 , 3.98, and 5.37 together and the total was $32.02 but since you round up i got $32.03 so that’s how i got my answer.
The first thing that I did was that I multiply 4.75 by 3.89 and I got 18.48 then I did the same thing with eggs and I did 4 times 1.05 and I got 4.20 for the eggs the next thing I did 2 multiply 1.99 and I got 3.98 the next thing I did was 3 multiply 1.79 and I got 5.37 for bread. Mr. Meissner will spend 32.03.
Mr meissner spent 32.03
Mr. Meissner would pay about $34 because I rounded 4.75 pounds to 5 and $3.89 to $4 so 5×4=20 and about $1 for every dozen and he’s gettin 4 dozens so 4×1= 4 and $2 for every gallon so 2×2= 4 and about $2 per loaf so 2×3 because he wants 3 loads is 6 then you add them all together is 36 so Mr. Meissner spent $34 at the grocery store. ~ Allyson Barajas
The answer would be 30.14$ i got this by multiplying 4.75 by 3.89 then 1.05 by 4 then 1.99 by 4.2 then 1.79 by 2. Then i added all of those answers up to get my final answer. Which is 30.14$!
Mr. Meissner spent 32.92 because after multiplying the prices and the pound i added each of the prices together and got 32.92
i got 32.92 because i multiplied the prices and the pounds then added them up together and got 32.92
1: I took $3.89 and rounded it to 3.90. Then I did:
3.90 + 3.90 = 7.80 + 3.90 = 14.70 + 3.90 = 18.60
2. I took 1.05 and round it to 1.10. Then:
1.10 + 1.10 = 2.20 + 1.10 = 3.30 + 1.10 = 4.40
3. I took 1.99 and rounded it to 2.00. So:
2.00 + 2.00 = 4.00
4. I took 1.79 and rounded it to 1.80:
1.80 + 1.80 = 3.60 + 1.80 = 5.40
—————- TOTAL—————–
$18.60 + $4.40 + $4.00 + $5.40=
$32.40
$23.03
My answer is $13.47 because I added up all of the answers witch were 4.74 + 3.89 + 1.05 + 1.99 + 1.79. With adding up all the prices from the iteams he bought, you would get $13.47 dollars
Mr.Meissner spent 13 dollars and 47 cents at the store.
mr.meissner spent 32.00 i multiplyed my answer was 32.02 dollars in total because i got the steak $4.75 by 3.89 and got 18.47. then i multiplied the eggs 4 dozens by 1.05 per dozen and got $4.20. after i multiplied the milk 2 gallons by 1.99 and got $3.99. Finally i multiplied 3 loaves of bread by 1.79 and got 5.37 and i took all those numbers and added themall together to get my total of $32.00 first it was 32.02 but i rounded up and got 32.00
he spent 32.02 at the stored
First I rounded up all the numbers . Then when I rounded them all already I added them up. When I added them up I got $14.00 . Then with those $14.00 I added 4.75 to it & got 18.75 . Last with the number 18.75 I added how much numbers there was and I go $23.75 .
He would spend $32.02 because you look at all the items and there prices the you take the price per unit and you multiple that times the number he is getting the you get your answer
$32.02
$13.47 i got as my price i added all the numbers and got13.47 with the tax included.
first you times 4.75 by 4 and that is 3.89 than you round i got 19 than tou by 4 dozen eggs for the price of one than you buy 1 gallon for two dollars and than that equals 4 dollars and than you buy 3 loaves of bread thats 6 dollars so my estimate is 30 dollars
he spent $32.03 i got this by multiplying the price by the pound/gallon/etc and then i added them all together and got 32.02778 abd then i rounded that too $32.03 since it had too many decimal places.
$34.00 is the total money spent.
I multiplied the number of pounds to hoe much it costs per pound and after I got all my answers I added them up and got $31.94.
how*
First I multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 which equals 18.4775 and then i rounded it to 18.48. I multiplied 4 by 1.05 which equals 4.20. I 1.99 by 2= 3.98. I multiplied 3 by 1.79 = 5.37
Last I added all the products together and got 32.03
All together Mr. Meissner spent $32.03.
he spent $40
first i multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 which equals 18.4775 and then i rounded it to 18.48. i multiplied 4 by 1.05 which equals 4.20. then i 1.99 by 2=3.98. i multiplied 3 by 1.79 = 5.37. then i added all the products up and then i got 32.03$
$32.05
First you have to multiply each of the price with how much he got..
$3.89×4.75=18.4775.. then you need to round to the nearest hundredths place.. that would be $18.48..
$1.05×4=$4.20
$1.99×2=$3.98
$1.79×3=$5.37
Then you need to add all those together..
$18.48+$4.20+$3.98+$5.37=$32.03
so, he spent $32.03 at the store…
He spent $32.05
first i multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 which equals 18.4775 and then i rounded it to 18.48,then i multiplied 4 by 1.05 which equals 4.20 next i 1.99 by 2=3.98 then i multiplied 3 by 1.79=5.37 then added all of them and got 32.03
you times 3.89 by 4.75 and get 18.48
1.05*4=4.20
1.99*2=2.98
1.79*3=5.37
it all adds up to 32.03$
He spent $32.03 while at the store.First, I multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 and got 18.4775. Then, I rounded the number to 18.48. After, I multiplied 4 by 1.05 and got 4.20. I also multiplied 1.99 by 2 and got 3.98. After that I multiplied 3 and 1.79 which equaled 5.37. Finally, I added all the numbers and got $32.03.
32.03
What I did to find the answer was first I multiplied 4.75 by 3.89 and equaled 18.4775 and rounded it to 18.84. Then I multiplied 4 by 1.05 and equaled 4.20. After I multiplied 3 by 1.79 and got 5.37. Lastly I added all the numbers which lead me to an answer of $32.03. That’s how I got my answer.
