Meet You Half Way!

March1

pee-wee-herman-riding-his-bike

Taylor and Anya are friends that live 63 miles apart. Sometimes on a Saturday they ride toward each other’s houses on their bikes and meet at the halfway point. One Saturday, they left their houses at 8am and met at 11am. Taylor rode at 12.5 miles per hour. How fast did Anya ride?

First you have to divide the total amount of miles that the girls are apart which is 63 by 2 because theres 2 girls and that equals 31.5. Then you divide 31.5 by 3 because it took them from 8 am to 11am which is 3 hours to meet up. Lastly that equals 10.5. So anya rode10.5mph.

Taylor rode at 12.5 mph times 3 hours to the halfway point = 37.5 miles. Subtract from the total miles – 63 – and get 25.5 miles that Anya rode. Divide that into 3 – the total time it took Anya to get to the midway point and Anya rode 8.5 mph.

I got my answer by first finding out how many hours it took them to get there by doing 11-8=3 because they started biking at 8 and got there at 11. I multiplied 12.5 by 3 because Taylor rode 12.5 miles per hour and it took them 3 hours. 12.5 times 3 is 37.5. Then, I subtracted 37.5 from 63 because their houses are 63 miles apart. 63-37.5 is 25.5. Anya traveled 25.5 miles in three hours, but how much did she travel in one hour? I divided 25.5 by 3 and my answer was 8.5 miles per hour.

So from there we would do 3 {how many hours it took Anya} and divide it by 31.5 {the total amount of miles each girl took} and i got 10.5. So Anya traveled 10.5 miles per hour!

  42. March 5th, 2015 at 7:16 pm      Reply allysonb2014 Says:

Anya had rode 8.5 miles per hour. I know this because you know that Taylor bikes 12.5 miles every one hour then you have to multiply 12.5 by 3 because it took three hours and you get 37.5 miles total then subtract that by 63 because that’s the total amount of miles separating there houses and you get 31.5 then you have to divid that by 3 for three hours and you get 8.5, so Anya rides 8.5 miles per hour

25.5 miles / 3 hours = 8.5 miles per hour is the answer because 12.5 x 3 = 37.5 subtract that by 63 which is 25.5 and if they left at 8 and met at 11 its 3 hours so 25.5 divided by 3 = your answer which is 8.5

Divide 2.52 by 2 and get 1.26 Taylor rode for 1 hours and 26 minutes. Make the hours and minutes to minutes. Subtract 180 and 86 and get 94. Divide 94 by 63 and round to the nearest unit. First you figure out the distance Taylor rode:
    8am – 11am= 3 hours
    12.5 * 3= 37.5

37.5 IS THE DISTANCE TAYLOR RODE!

    Now we figure out Anya:
    Find Distance: 63 – 37.5= 25.5
    Now we Use D=r*t
    25.5= r * 3
    3/25.5=8.5
So Anya traveled at 8.5 mph.

Anya rode 8.5 miles per hour. The way I got this answer was by doing 12.5 mph times 3 hours = 37.5 then 63-37.5 which would mean Anya went 25.5 miles. then I divided by 3 hours so you get 8.5 miles per hour.

Anya rode at 10.5 mph. divide 63 by 2 and you get that each person rode 31.5 miles. then you divide 31.5 miles by 3 hours and you get that Anya rode at 10.5 mph.

I divided 63 by 2 I got 12.5. So both girls rode 12.5 miles per hour.

    15.75 miles per hours

I got 8.5 because I multiplied how fast anya went and the amout of hours it took Taylor to meet and it equaled 37.5 miles. Then i subtract 37.5 from 63 and got 25.5 that how i got my answer.

anya rides 5.04 MPH, the way i got the anwser is dividing 63 and 12.5, and i got 5.04

Taylor rode at 12.5 mph because it you multiply 12.5 by 3 hours to the halfway point you get 37.5 miles. Subtract from the total miles 63 – and get 25.5 miles that Anya rode. Divide that into 3 – the total time it took Anya to get to the midway point and Anya rode 8.5 mph.

Anya rode 10.5 mph. I got this by taking 63 and dividing it by 2 because there are 2 girls. Then I took my answer (31.5) and dividing that by 3 because she rode in 3 hours, and I got 10.5

If the girls meet at the halfway point, Anya would have to travel the same speed as Taylor, which is 12.5 mph. (Also, I like the GIF)

I got 15.12 miles per hour.
I got this by dividing 63 and 12.5. Then added 3 for how many hours it took them to meet.

    i think its 745.5 miles because i mutiplied 12.5×63 and then i added 675+6780=745.5.

First i took taylors speed multiplied it by the amount of hours which was 3 theni got 37.5 then i subtracted that from 63 and got 25.5 then divided that by 3 and got 3.5 mph

Anya has to go 10.5 mph , The first thing I did was divide 63 by 2=31.5, then divided that by 3 which is 10.5mph (that Anya was going).
