Rental Truck

February8

moving_truck_op_800x782

The McCall family wants to rent a truck for a day. They have a choice of two truck rental companies.

Company A:  $30 per day plus $0.60 per mile

Company B:  $55 per day plus $0.35 per mile

I am offering my advice as to which company the McCall’s should pick. What other information would be important for me to know in order to give them the best advice possible? Explain why I need the information you are suggesting!

you would also need to know how many miles they went. you would need to know that because then would know how much they actualy paid aside from how much they paid for the one day they rented it .

  3. February 9th, 2015 at 8:28 am      Reply anasm2014 Says:

Well I think company A is better because if you add $30 dollars just for the truck and than 0.60cents for the mIles basicall or everything thatwould most likely equal 55 dollars or less so comany b is not tha good because the truck is gonna cost $55 and the you still have to add the 35 cents, yes the cents per mile are cheaper but if you add them together you are just spending more money then you need to. if theres a better deal thats for less money and provides the same thing you are most likely to get company A.

how many miles that you are driving because then you would be in some under standing of how much you will pay for the miles all together say you were driving 100 miles you would multiply the amount of miles that you are driving by the amount of money it costs per mile. for 60 cents per mile al together you would be paying $60 plus the $30 per day you would pay $90 in all. for 35 cents you would pay $35 plus the $55 per day you would still pay $90.

company a 30.00 dollars plus 60 cents equals 30.60 in total
    company b 55.00 plus 35 cents equals 55.35
it would cost more if they went with company b and it would cost less if the went with company a you should rent offer your advise and tell them to go with company a 😉

company A) if you mutiply $0.60 and $30 and then divide by the days they want to rent the truck you will get $18 as you answer
company b) if you mutiply $55 and $0.35 then divide by the number of days rented you will get $19.25. so the best company to rent from is company a because it charges less money for one day.

  10. February 9th, 2015 at 5:00 pm      Reply emmabr2014 Says:

well, if you are suggesting which company you think is best to the Mcalls then you should probably include information like if the Mcalls are planning to move for three days at the most two days at the least then you should probably include the price range of the amount of days it would cost. Second, if the Mcalls ask you why you think this company is the best and why this company is so special. Lastly, if the Mcalls asks you will you help them move the stuff with them then you should politely say “yes” instead of saying ” Dude no way! my back is killing me and I don’t want to help you!”. 😉

I would add how big the rental truck is becuase i want to know if it is big enough or if it is too small. I would also like to know how much insurance would cost just incase i get in a car crash i want to know this becuase if i getr hurt how much would the insurance cover ? I would also like to know what condition the rental car is so i know if it will break down on me or if it wont. Lastly i would like to know if the truck is stick or automatic so that if i cant drive stick i would get the rental truck that is automatic.

The info I suggest is how many miles you are going because one price could be cheaper if it’s only 10 miles and it would be more expensive if it’s 40 miles so that is what information is needed or else I can’t find the better buy.

  16. February 10th, 2015 at 2:29 pm      Reply treya2014 Says:

Some very important information you should know is how many miles the McCalls are driving so the cents per mile could count for something. That would be the best advice possible. P.S. company A is better.

  17. February 10th, 2015 at 3:16 pm      Reply jasminm2014 Says:

I believe that Company A has a better offer because I noticed that if you divide 60 by 2 you will get 30 and if you divide 55 by 2 then you will get a smaller number than 35. So they are charging you a little more than half of 55. In other words, Company A is cheaper than Company B.

  18. February 10th, 2015 at 3:37 pm      Reply sydneyb2014 Says:

for 1, doesn’t it depend on how far they are going?

well, i don’t have an answer yet so lets find out!

well if they are having a rental for only 1 day, all we have to do is add.
    Company A:
    30.00
    + 00.60
    ————–
    $30+ adding $0.60 every mile

    Company B:$50+ adding $0.35

im coming in for lunch i think this needs more information. it depends on how far they are going. if they are going , lets say 12 miles, then i could answer it but im coming in to get some help. ill make a different comment if i understand later on.

  19. February 10th, 2015 at 6:42 pm      Reply walterm2014 Says:

Well, you are supposed to know how many miles the houses are. Also, how long will they have the rental truck. Company A offers 60 cents per mile, and let’s suppose that the houses are 12 miles away. Multiply 0.60 to 12 and get 7.20 dollars. So per each day, they’ll pay 7.20 (in miles). Let’s also suppose that you’ll rent the truck for 2 days. Multiply both 30 and 7.20 by two and get a total of 74.40 dollars. Let’s do the same to Company B if your going to rent for two days and the houses are 12 miles apart. In total you’ll pay 118.40 dollars. So I highly recommend the McCall family to choose Company A if they’re going to move.

  20. February 10th, 2015 at 7:03 pm      Reply natalied2014 Says:

If i were giving advice to the McCalls family I would tell them the all day price of Company A is $30 and Company Bs all day price is $55 because they need to know which is cheaper. I would also tell them that the price per mile is for Company A is $0.60 and that Company Bs price per mile is $0.35 because they need to find out the price to travel depending on how far there new house is. Then I would tell them to add the price per mile to the price per day because they need to find out which is cheaper all together.

  24. February 11th, 2015 at 3:07 pm      Reply teah2014 Says:

In order for you to decide which company is better you would have to know how many miles they will be driving so, you can figure out the total cost. For example, if they had to drive 254 mi. for a total of three days and they chose company A, the total cost would be $242.4 If they went with company B the total cost would be 253.9. If that’s how long and how far they had to drive then company A would be a better deal.

    1. A is better at first because it is a cheaper deal then B unless thy go on a far trip.
    2. B is better for different reason because if they go on a long trip there miles would be cheaper unless they go on a short trip then A would be better.
    3. To check how many revues there are on that company.

I think that the best company to choose is Company B because Company B has More amount to pay for a whole day but the gas prices are lower than Company A……. 🙂 I also think that that company A is better because $0.60 cents could add up to more money by the mile and also because the car is a truck……. 😉
Also, is there a certain amount of miles??

  32. February 12th, 2015 at 3:50 pm      Reply reneeh2014 Says:

You would need to know the distance(how many miles) they are going. You need this information because each rental company has a different price per mile plus what their daily charge is. Many people would probably say that company A would be the cheapest because they charge less per day but the Mccall family might spend more money depending on how far they are going.

  33. February 12th, 2015 at 3:59 pm      Reply jeanettem2014 Says:

I think another piece of information you need to know is how many miles they drove … we know that they are going to rent the truck for a day so witch is $30 for company A and $55 for company B so you need to know how many miles they drove in total , but you cant figure that out unless you know how many miles it drove so that is why i think u need that’s important to know 🙂

  34. February 12th, 2015 at 4:48 pm      Reply brandonw2014 Says:

The most important factor is number of miles the truck is driven. Company A is better for traveling a short number of miles but Company B is better for traveling a long number of miles. If the truck drives under 120 miles, Company A would be cheaper. If the truck is driven over 120 miles, Company B would be cheaper.

  35. February 12th, 2015 at 5:17 pm      Reply haileyb2014 Says:

The other information you would need would be how many miles they are driving so you could find the total amount of money it would cost. You couldn’t find the better buy without the total amount of miles you would drive. You could say that A would be the better but but you would never know which one until you try each of them.

  36. February 12th, 2015 at 5:37 pm      Reply josiasp2014 Says:

My advice to the McCall’s would be that Company A is better because Company B is expensive in the first place, Company A is super cheap and the $ per mile isn’t even doubled from Company B’s, so either way, Company A is better than B.

  37. February 12th, 2015 at 6:05 pm      Reply julianm2014 Says:

The McCall family should go with company A because 0.60(24)+30=44.4 and company B has 0.35(24)+55=63.4.

  38. February 12th, 2015 at 6:05 pm      Reply kateenaa2014 Says:

Some important information needed to give the best advice is that company A costs $25 less than company B. Also that Company A would only cost around $30-$40 for a day since it only costs $1 per mile. You need this information so you will be able to explain why company A costs a lot less than company B per day.

  39. February 12th, 2015 at 6:41 pm      Reply kevina2014 Says:

The information that I should know to tell the McCall’s is the distance that the truck is going because one truck company is charging more per mile than another company, so if they are driving less than 150 miles they would be better off with Company A and if they are driving more than 150 miles they would be better off with Company B, because the distance is important because of the cost per mile.

  40. February 12th, 2015 at 6:49 pm      Reply madisono2014 Says:

I think the McCall’s should pick the company A but I need some more information to make my final advice the information I need is how many days they drive the car and how many miles they’re driving I need this information because then I could see how much it will cost for each company’s for that amount of days and miles then give my advice for which one is better.

When you add the 1.75 to the 55 which is company B you would end up paying 56.75. So Company A is much cheaper.

The McCall’s should choose Company A because they are cheaper. My example is that if they travel 100 miles for 2 days. Company A total cost is $120 because I multiplied $30 times for 2 days and I got $60, then I multiplied 0.60 per mile for 100 miles and I got $60. I then added it up and I got $120. Company B is $145 because I multiplied $55 for 2 days and I got $110, then I multiplied 0.35 per mile for 100 miles and I got $35. I then added up the numbers and I got $145 for Company B and they were more expensive.

To find out the best deal I had to come up with a random amount of miles they would travel to see what price was lowest and a better deal . The extra information I would tell them is that yes it looks like company A is the better deal because the cost per day is lower then company B but their is also cents per mile and it a low price for both but that small amount can add up pretty fast. So the random amount of miles I chose was 5 miles , so for company A I would multiply 60 cents by 5 and I got 3 dollars plus 30 is $33 dollars . for company B I would multiply 35 by 5 and get $1.75 plus $55 dollars I would get $56.75 . So company A has the better deal in renting a truck for the day .

The other information that would be important is how far the truck can travel per mile or per gallon of gasoline. The McCall family should need to know that because if they are going to travel a long distance then they should know how much the truck will travel on one gallon of gasoline. It is important to also know how fast the truck can travel per mile because if it cost money to travel per mile, and the truck does not go very fast, then they will be paying more money for traveling less distance.

  63. February 14th, 2015 at 4:37 pm      Reply Susy Torres Says:

In order to give better advice to the McCalls you need more information like, how much they would pay in all because they need to see which is worth it also they need to know how often they need to stop for gas and if they need to fill the tank of gas before returning it so they can know the exact total and find the better deal.

  64. February 14th, 2015 at 6:07 pm      Reply katarinam2014 Says:

You would also need to knownhow many days and how many miles you are going to find the best deal.
For example company A is cheaper per day but more per mile than company B.
If you are renting for only one day and going 25 miles then company A is $30 + (25+.60) = $45.00
    Company B is $55+(25x.35) = $90
    COMPANY A is cheaper
But if you are renting for 3 days and going 1000 miles then
    Company A is ($30×3) +(1000 x .60) = $690
    Company B is ($55×3) + (1000 x .35) = $515
So company B is cheaper in this example

  66. February 14th, 2015 at 7:28 pm      Reply damonj2014 Says:

The important information that is missing is how many miles they are traveling. you need this information to multiply the $.60 per mile and the $.35 per mile to complete the total cost of the rentals.

  67. February 14th, 2015 at 7:38 pm      Reply Katiesa2014 Says:

*You would need to know the distance that they are traveling (that would be most important) because the $30 a day truck is 0.60 cents per mile and the $55 a day truck is only 0.35 cents per mile, so we need to know how many miles they will be traveling.
*You would need to know the weight of the load in the truck, because the heavier the weight, the more gas you will use on either truck.
*You would need to know how many miles you could drive a day, before stopping to rest, so you would know how many days you would need the truck, because there is a price difference of $25 a day between trucks.

Those are the most important reasons.

  68. February 14th, 2015 at 8:20 pm      Reply rheond2014 Says:

A.) because you get a cheaper cost per day and the family only has to rent a truck for ”one” day.

  69. February 14th, 2015 at 10:38 pm      Reply jaquelinev2014 Says:

The other important information to be known is the mileage because for longest distance travel company B is cheaper but for shorter distance travel company A is cheaper.

    At 150 miles traveled :

    Company A – 0.60 * 150 miles = $90 + $30=$120.00
    Company B – 0.35 * 150 miles = $52.50 + $55 = $107.50

    At 50 miles traveled :

    Company A – 0.60 * 50 miles = $30 + $30 = $60.00
    Company B – 0.35 * 50 miles = $17.50 + 55 = $72.50

some other information that they would need would be to make sure that it runs good long distance, and short distance. maybe what other people have commented on the truck before, as in if it’s a good one or not. you would want a truck that won’t break down while you’re driving it. also maybe it’s gas mileage, to see how much it’s been drivin.

You have to concider it; the equtions would be: (.60*24)+30=$44.40 And (.35*24)+55=63.40
COMPANY A : is better because it has a lower price than COMPANY B

How many miles they were driving would be good information.

I think the McCalls family should pick company A because they charge less than company B. If they pick company B there going to have to pay $24.75 more . I think that is important information that the McCalls family should know because I don’t think no one would want to pay $24.75 more just to rent a truck . The McCalls family should go with company A.

for company a you would add the $ 30.00 to 66 cents you would then divide by 12 miles and the answer is 2.55

for company you would do the samething and the answer would be 4.61 i would go with company B

Document A: If it is $30 per day over $0.60 per mile and i fyou find the unit rate then it will equal $5 per day over $0.10 per mile, so if they were to move it would depend on the amount of day it would take for the family to move then multipy that by the unit rate of the first price given to us.

Document B:If it is $55 per day over $0.35 per mile that would equal $15 per day over $0.10 per mile, so it would depen don how many days it eould take the family to mmove then multiply that by the unit rate from the price given to us.

In conclusion my advise would be to use the truck of company A because it pays less for more miles than the other. What they should know is the unit rate so they will be able to find out how much it would cost they to rent or use the truck.

You also need to know how many days they’re going to use the rental truck and how many miles they plan on driving for. If they are driving for a lot of days then Company A. might be better since it is less money per day but if they plan on driving for a short distance then Company B. is better since it is less money per mile.

    Company A: first multiply 30 by 0.60 and you get 18. So that’s $18.
    Company B: first multiply 55 by 0.35 and yo get 19.25. So that’s $19.25.

Company A is better to use because it’s $1.25 cheaper.

  89. March 13th, 2015 at 8:02 pm      Reply montserrathg2014 Says:

A has a better offer because if you divide 60 by 2 youll get 30 if you divide 55 by 2 then youll get a smaller number then 30. So they’re charging you more then half of 55 so company a is better then b
