Family Trip!

January19

Charlie was on a family trip. The diagram below shows what time it was when they started their trip and when he looked at his watch again. Charlie’s mom told him how far they had traveled in that amount of time.

Pages001

Based on this information, what is the unit rate of the car? Explain what the unit rate means in the context of this problem.

Charles dad said the entire trip is 1200 miles. How long will it take them to get to their destination? Explain how you know!

The unit rate is 1:15/80miles. In the context of the problem unit rate is a rate that compares one unit of a given quantity. At 5:25 they will reach there destination I know because I divided 1200 and 80 and get 17:25 then I subtract 17:25 and 12:00 and get 5:25.

it them 30 hours to get 1200 miles and I got that by getting the fraction 2 over 80 than divided by 2 and got 1 over 40 than I multiplied by 30 to get 1200 miles and did the same to the top and got 30 over 1200

  3. January 20th, 2015 at 9:06 am      Reply rogeliop2014 Says:

it would take 30 hours or 1 day and 6 hours because 2 hours is 80 miles and the fraction is 2/80 and the unit rate is 1 so divide 2 by 2 is 1 then divide 80 by 2 and that equals 40 and the entire trip is 1200 miles and 40 times 30 is 1200 the unit rate is 1 times 30 so it took them 30 hours or 1 day and 6 hours.

  4. January 20th, 2015 at 9:06 am      Reply jasonbo2014 Says:

It would take 30 hours or 1 day and 6 hours because it took 2 hours to get 80 miles so the fraction is 2/80 but the unit rate is 1 so 2 divided by 2 is 1 and then divide 80 by 2 and that equals 40 but the entire trip was 1200 miles and 40 times 30 is 1200 and the unit rate is one so 1 times 30 is 30 so it took them 30 hours.

The unit rate of the car is 40 miles per hour because if it is 80 minutes for 2 hours half of it will be 40 miles per hour. It will be 3 hours because if 40 times 3 it will equal 1200 so you will have to multiply 3 by 1 and get 3. So it will be 3 hours if you travel 1200 miles.

So if they started driving at 11:15 and when the boy checked his watch, Iit was already 1:15, two hours has already passed and they have traveled 80 miles. So I you divide 80 to 20 , you will get 40 miles an hour. So the unit rate is 40 miles in 1 hour. But the trip is 1200 miles long, so if you travel 40 miles in 1 hour, you will get a 30 hour long trip because if you divide 1200 miles to 40, you will get 30. 30 represents the amout of hours driven.

It will obviously be mph because it’s asking how many mph. If it’s been two hours in eighty miles, they’d be going forty mph.

I don’t understand the second one though

The unit rate is 40 miles per 1 hour. The unit rate in the context of this problem is how far they travel in 1 hour. It will take them 30 hours to get to their destination because if you divide 1200 by 40, then you get 30. If you multiply the unit rate by 30 on the top and bottom, then you end up with 1200 miles over 30 hours. That means that it takes them 30 hours to get to their destination.

1mile/min. It will take him 20 hours. I did 1•60 and got 60 miles per hour and then I divided 60 by 1200 and got 20 hours.

1,200 mi would take 30 hours because it takes 2 hours to move 80 mi so if you divide that by 2 and you get 1 hour to move 40 mi, multiply 40 by 30 and you get 1,200.

    ________
    1hour
The unit rate means every hour they wil drive 40 miles.

    1200miles

    30hours
So how I know is you take 1200 and divide it by 40 and you get 30.

The unit rate is 40 miles/ 1 hr
This unit rate is the constant pattern for miles per hour.
They will take 30 hours to get to their destination.
I got my answer by dividing 1,200 and 40 and I got 30. I didn’t multiply because had the total miles so I didn’t have to multiply to find out the total miles.

The unit rate of the car is 40/1 because it takes 1 hour to travel 40 miles so that means it took 2 hours to travel 80 miles so in order to get the solution of how long it took the family to get to their destination I divided 40 into 1,200 because it took 1,200 miles to get there and the unit rate is 40 miles so it took Charles dad 30 hours to get to their destination ☺️😊😂👌

first, it would take 30 hours or 1 day and 6 hours because 2 hours is 80 miles and the fraction is 2 over 80. next, you divide 2/80 by 2 to get your unit rate. the unit rate is 1 over 40. then if you divide 1,200 by 40 then you get 30. last, my answer is 30 hours. (or 1 day and 6 hours)

The unit rate is 40 miles per hour because on the first clock it says 11:15 and the second clock says 1:15 which that is 2 hours apart which means they traveled 80 miles in 2 hours. 80÷2 =40 so the unit rate is 40 miles per hour. I will take them 30 hours
