The correct answer would be D. It would be D because you started with a positive so it would go right.since you are adding a negative you have to cancel so that would mean it would go left.In D it shows 1 1/2 going to the right and – 1/2 going to the left.
The correct answer is letter D. I got this by looking at the first number (1 1/2) and thinking, where would this number be on the number line, and what direction is the arrow facing? Then I found the two letters who had the answer I did, which was letter A and D. Then I went and looked at the second number (1/2) and thought (again) where would this number be on the number line, and which way would it be facing? Once I found my answer I looked at A and D because those are the only two that had the first number right, and saw that D had 1/2in the right spot and facing the right way.
The correct answer is D because it is positive 1 and a half then the next number is -half so when you add those two together you will have less than you started with so the correct number line is D because the answer is 1.
the answer i choose was line d because it is 11/2 +-1/2 so when you add those two together you will have less than what you started with and the only line that shows that is line d that is my answer
OBVIOUSLY, the answer is D. ok, so the problem says “which number line model represents the sum of 1 1/2 + 1/2” so if you look at all the number lines they all say a different answer other than D. Such as:
2
-2
-1
If you pay attention to what the problem says it says the sum of 1 1/2 and -1/2. the -1/2 means that if the number is negative you go backwards, if the number is positive you keep going forward. So, that means that all the answers A through C are wrong. D would be the correct answer because you are adding 1 1/2 on the number line and then you are subtracting -1/2 on the number line so since 1/2 is negative you would be going backwards on the number line and then your end product would be one. that is your correct answer.
i think that c is your anwer because when u have 1 1/2 and -1/2 u are looking for how far away they are form echothe to get a answer on th number line.
The correct answer is D. Since you are doing positive 1 1/2 and adding negative 1/2, it would be the same as doing 1 1/2- 1/2. D shows that the first line starts at zero, and goes halfway between 1 and 2. That is 1 1/2. The second line starts halfway between 1 and 2 and goes to 1. That is 1/2. Since the 1/2 line is facing the opposite direction from 1 1/2, you would subtract. That means that the problem would be 1 1/2-(-1/2), or 1 1/2 + (-1/2).
The answer is c because the answer is one I know a is also going the same way but both arrows are going the same way when only one of the two arrows have to go toward the negative side.that is why the answer is c
the number line that represents the sum of 1 1/2 and -1/2 would be number line D because that line shows 1 1/2 and it shows it subtracting 1/2 so then that means that is the correct number line
the answer is D i got this answer because you have to move rom the zero and go 1 1/2 to the right and then go -1/2 to the left and that is how you get your answer.
i know the answer is D because 1 1/2 + (-1/2) so the half will just be gone because a half subtact a half is nothing so that wil just leave you with 1 hole.
I Got D.
I got this by starting at 0 and moving ethier right or left depending on the number if its negitive or positive, and i tryed it on all and it would not fit good until i got to the very last one and it fit perfectly so i thought it has to be that one.
🙂
The letter D is the best answer because the arrow goes one whole, and a half, ( 1 1/2), as i had to take away a half, so the small arrow goes backwards of a half.
thats why i think letter D represents the sum.
the answer is d because the answer to 1 1/2 + -1/2 is one so you have to pick the number line which starts on 1 1/2 and shows that the number is less and the other shows that the number is more than zero. D is the only one that shows this.
The line graph model (d) is the correct answer because one line goes to the right past 1 and lands at the halfway point, which equals to positive 1 1/2 then an other line goes to the left for half point, which equals – 1/2. So, the result is 1
D would be the correct answer because you have one and a half and you add a negative half and that is going a half step back since you are adding a negative, you added that negative so it would be the same thing as subtracting , also if you drew that ,there would be one zero pair so since you took away that zero pair it leaves you with a smaller number and that number is 1 so the answer is one
The answer is d.First on your number line you draw an arrow to the right of 0 and you draw the arrow to 1 1/2 then you have to draw -1/2 because that’s what your taking away so your arrow starts at 1 1/2 and End at 1because 11/2+-1/2 equals1 so the answer is d.
I think answer D is correct. I know this because 1 1/2 + -1/2 equals 1.Since your answer is positive the solution can’t be B or C. So out of A and D, answer D is more accurate.
D.) because when you add you have to change the addtion sign to a subtraction sign. when i subtracted, one and a half by negative one and a half i got 0.
the answer is D because the 11/2 is positive so the arrow for that should be going up, since of course it’s positive. The second arrow should be going down because the 1/2 is negative, soooo with that, the answer is D.
I think the correct answer is “d” because you start at one and a half then you subtract half even though it says to add. You subtract because the half is a negative number.
GO GIANTS!
The answer is D because the first number is 1 1/2 and the bottom arrow is at 1 1/2 (between 1 and 2) . The second number is 1\2 and the top arrow is 1/2 long. Because we are adding a negative number, we need to subtract (go to the left) and the top arrow is pointing to the left. The answer to the problem is 1.
I think that the correct answer is D because the problem asks which number line model represents the sum of 1 1/2+(-1/2). D is correct bacause it shows us that there is 1 1/2 or 1.5 with the arrow pointing left which means its adding but then it asks us to subtract 1/2 or .5 and that arrow is pointing to the right. If we were looking for the answer it would be 1.
My answer is (D) because you have to start off at positive 1 1/2 which is on the right of the number line. After that you have to subtract 1/2 because adding a negative is the same as subtracting a positive. So 1 1/2 + (-1/2) = 1. And that’s what the answer (D) says.
The answer would be D because i am adding 1 1/2 + -1/2 so i would go up the number line and draw a arrow going to 1 1/2 and then from 1 1/2 i would go down the number line and draw an arrow from 1 1/2 down to 1 because i’m subtracting 1/2 because its a negative so i would bring it down so technically i’m subtracting. That is why the answer would be D !!!
My answer is d
D is the answer because the arrow is going to 1 1/2 on the right of the 0 and the arrow on top of the one going to the right is the arrow going 1/2 to the left of the number line. Since the equation is 1 1/2+(-1/2), d makes the most sense because on the number line is going up to 1 1/2 and going down 1/2 since you are adding -1/2 your really subtracting 1/2.
None of these number lines show the correct answer. The correct answer is 0. I know this because if you add a positive and a negative you are making zero pairs and your leftovers are your answer but the equation, 1 1/2 + -1 1/2 has all zero pairs and no leftovers. None of the number lines above show zero as an answer.
Good start Citlally! Your logic is correct but your problem is incorrect. Make sure you read the question very carefully and that you are working on the intended problem!
D is the correct answer because the line on the top of D ends at 1 1/2 and then it adds a negative, so basically 1 1/2 minus 1/2 is 1, and the line ends at one.
I think the answer would be D because first of all first they are graphing 1 1/2 and its graphing 1 1/2 from 0 to 1 1/2 and since it positive its going to the right. They also graphed -1/2 putting the arrow from 1 to 1 1/2 so it would be 1/2 and the arrow is pointing to the left because it is negative.
Jaydin,
This does not tell me what your answer is OR how you arrived at your solution. Please read over your comments and make sure they are clear and complete.
D IS the right answer because the long arrow starts at 0 and goes to the right for 1 1/2 in the positive direction and the small arrow goes 1/2 to the left which represents -1/2.
i think the answer is d because the 1 1/2 is positive and the arrow is going right to the positive number. the second number is -1/2 and its negative so it would have to be going to the left and it is. so thats why i think its d.
i think the answer is d because the 1 1/2 is positive and the arrow is going right to the positive number. the second number is -1/2 and its negative so it would have to be going to the left and it is.
D is the correct answer because the long arrow starts at 0 then goes to 1 1/2 and the short arrow goes to the left which would equal -1 1/2. which would make the correct answer D.
the correct answer is D because the big arrow starts at 0 and goes to the right which would equal 1 1/2. and the small arrow starts at 0 and goes to the left which would equal -1/2. and thats why i think the correct answer is D.
D I got this answer because 1 1/2 is positive and the the large arrow is going to the right of the zero and _ 1/2 is negative and the small arrow is going to the left of the zero
The correct answer is d because on the graph it shows 1 1/2 and then the plot shows the small arrow going back 1/2 to indicate the number is being subtracted.
I think the answer would be D because 1 1/2 is a positive number and it is going to the positive way, -1/2 is negative and its going to the negative way.
The answer is D. The reason why is, you subtract so you went back on the number line one half of one, the subtraction and addition sign makes a subtraction sign.
i think D is the correct anwser because 1 1/2 + -1/2 equals1 and since your anwser is positive the solution cant be B or C . so out of anwsers A and D, D would be more accurate.
The right answer is D because the longest arrow correctly shows 1- 1/2, and a positive plus a negative is a negative, so your basically subtracting 1/2 off 1 1/2, which the shortest arrow correctly shows it’self subtracting half.
Miss Ellsion the answer is D because the 1 1/2 is positive and the arrow is going right to the positive number. The second number is -1/2 and its negative so it would have to be going to the left and it is soo the answer is D. =)=)=)=)=)=)=)=)=)
the correct answer is D. because if its 1 and 1 in an half plus (-1 in an half) you start from 0 and go to 1 and 1 in an half and ( – !!!) and go a half back because you turn the negative into minus.
The correct answer is D. Positive 1 1/2 + negative 1/2 is the same thing as doing 1 1/2 – 1/2 , and D shows that the long arrow starts at 0 and goes to the right for 1 1/2 in the positive direction and the small arrow goes 1/2 to the left which represents -1/2.
The answer is D because if you use “Same-Change-Change” the
answer will be 1. So if you do use “SCC” the problem would be
written like this: 1 1/2+ (-1/2)= 1 1/2 – 1/2.
DONE!!!!!!!!!
Point Prooven!?
The first thing that I did was that I started at zero. I then added 1½ so I’m going to the right on the number line. The next thing that I did was that I added the negative ½ which means that I move ½ to the left on the number line. So my answer is D.
i think D is the correct answer because on the number line there is two arrows above and the the bigger arrow shows it pointing to 1/2 and the smaller arrow is pointing to the (-1/2) thats why i think D is the answer.

d is the correct answer because it say what is 11/2+1/2=d
how i know the answer is correct
D is the correct answer because it is 11\2+1\2=how i know the answer is correct i tried all the other ones and they did not fit the problem
ms.Ellison i m not sure i think did it right
Thanks Jessica! Can you explain how you tried the other ones and decided D was the correct answer?
the answer i got was d because we went from zero to a positive 1 1/2 and then we went to the left 1/2 on the number line.
dustinr from 5th p
The correct answer would be D. It would be D because you started with a positive so it would go right.since you are adding a negative you have to cancel so that would mean it would go left.In D it shows 1 1/2 going to the right and – 1/2 going to the left.
D. is the answer because you add the 1 1\2 then you have to take away a 1\2 because you add a – number so that’s like taking away 1\2.
Thanks Kennedy! Can you explain how the number line models this problem?
Thanks Madison! Can you explain how the number line models the problem?
the answer i choose was line d because it is 11/2 +-1/2 so when you add those two together you will have less than what you started with and the only line that shows that is line d that is my answer
Thanks Rachel! Can you explain how the number line models the problem?
OBVIOUSLY, the answer is D. ok, so the problem says “which number line model represents the sum of 1 1/2 + 1/2” so if you look at all the number lines they all say a different answer other than D. Such as:
2
-2

If you pay attention to what the problem says it says the sum of 1 1/2 and -1/2. the -1/2 means that if the number is negative you go backwards, if the number is positive you keep going forward. So, that means that all the answers A through C are wrong. D would be the correct answer because you are adding 1 1/2 on the number line and then you are subtracting -1/2 on the number line so since 1/2 is negative you would be going backwards on the number line and then your end product would be one. that is your correct answer.
The answer would be (B) because 1 1/2 + (- 1/2) is 1 2/4 ..
Thanks Addie! How does the number line explain the problem?
D because thearows are different
i think that c is your anwer because when u have 1 1/2 and -1/2 u are looking for how far away they are form echothe to get a answer on th number line.
i think the answer is B becasue in one the a negative and aonly a B theres a negative fraction so my answer is B
Thanks Saul! Does how the arrows move on the number line tell us anything about the problem?
The correct answer is D. Since you are doing positive 1 1/2 and adding negative 1/2, it would be the same as doing 1 1/2- 1/2. D shows that the first line starts at zero, and goes halfway between 1 and 2. That is 1 1/2. The second line starts halfway between 1 and 2 and goes to 1. That is 1/2. Since the 1/2 line is facing the opposite direction from 1 1/2, you would subtract. That means that the problem would be 1 1/2-(-1/2), or 1 1/2 + (-1/2).
the answer is d because it go’s to 1.5 then go’s back to 1. and the sum of 1.5+-.5 is 1.
The answer is c because the answer is one I know a is also going the same way but both arrows are going the same way when only one of the two arrows have to go toward the negative side.that is why the answer is c
Thanks Brandon! You answer is very confusing! Make sure you read over you answers before you post them!
i think that the answer is d because the arrow opining left to right is 1 1/2 and the one pointing right to left is -1/2
the number line that represents the sum of 1 1/2 and -1/2 would be number line D because that line shows 1 1/2 and it shows it subtracting 1/2 so then that means that is the correct number line
It is D because you r are going to the right for positives then your going to the left for negatives.
the answer is D i got this answer because you have to move rom the zero and go 1 1/2 to the right and then go -1/2 to the left and that is how you get your answer.
i know the answer is D because 1 1/2 + (-1/2) so the half will just be gone because a half subtact a half is nothing so that wil just leave you with 1 hole.
Thanks Zack! How does the number line represent the solution?
sorry wrong one i think its d because the big hand gives you 1/2 and the little hand gives you 1
Thanks Onterio! Can you explain what you mean by “the big hand gives you 1/2 and the little hand gives you 1”?
I Got D.
I got this by starting at 0 and moving ethier right or left depending on the number if its negitive or positive, and i tryed it on all and it would not fit good until i got to the very last one and it fit perfectly so i thought it has to be that one.
🙂
I got D becuas you move to the to the right for 1 1/2 and you move left for the 1/2
The letter D is the best answer because the arrow goes one whole, and a half, ( 1 1/2), as i had to take away a half, so the small arrow goes backwards of a half.
thats why i think letter D represents the sum.
It D because you have more positivie then negative so you would get 1 and D show it.do 1 1/2 – 1/2 and get 1.
Thanks Kelton! How does the number line prove the solution?
The answer is D. If you have 1 and you add -1/2 then it’s just like subtracting.
Thanks Ben! How does the number line represent the problem?
the answer is d because the answer to 1 1/2 + -1/2 is one so you have to pick the number line which starts on 1 1/2 and shows that the number is less and the other shows that the number is more than zero. D is the only one that shows this.
the line that reprecents the sum of 1 1/2+-1/2 is D because 1 and a half – half=1
Thanks Jason! How does the number line represent the problem?
D. Because the problem is basically saying 1.5-0.5
Thanks Chase! How does the number line prove the solution of the problem?
I think that the answer is c. Because the 1 1 2 is on the positive side. And the negative 1 2 is on the negative side
Thanks Michelle! Does the answer for choice C seem reasonable for the problem?
I think c is the right answer becase the first one is that a posative and It gose right and the other one is negative so you have to go left
Thanks Alexa! Does the answer for C seem reasonable for the problem?
The line graph model (d) is the correct answer because one line goes to the right past 1 and lands at the halfway point, which equals to positive 1 1/2 then an other line goes to the left for half point, which equals – 1/2. So, the result is 1
D would be the correct answer because you have one and a half and you add a negative half and that is going a half step back since you are adding a negative, you added that negative so it would be the same thing as subtracting , also if you drew that ,there would be one zero pair so since you took away that zero pair it leaves you with a smaller number and that number is 1 so the answer is one
miss Ellison my answer is D because you start with a positive as it starts with a positive and goes BACK 1 1/2 so yea and bruhh I love you
my answer for this problem is (d) because in the problem says it shows it in the problem there are so meany problems but that is the correct answer.
Thanks Lisbeth! What about the number line in D tells you it is the correct solution?
D is the correct answer because adding a negative is really just subtracting so i would go 1/2 to the left of the number line.
The answer is d.First on your number line you draw an arrow to the right of 0 and you draw the arrow to 1 1/2 then you have to draw -1/2 because that’s what your taking away so your arrow starts at 1 1/2 and End at 1because 11/2+-1/2 equals1 so the answer is d.
the answer would be D. The reason for this is when you take 1 1/2 + (1/2) that would be one and line that number D represents that perfectly.
Thanks Audra! How does D represent it perfectly?
I think answer D is correct. I know this because 1 1/2 + -1/2 equals 1.Since your answer is positive the solution can’t be B or C. So out of A and D, answer D is more accurate.
Thanks Kateena! I like how you used elimination as a strategy to solve this problem! What made you choose D instead of A?
Do is the correct answer because 1.5 goes up and-.5 goes down.
D is the correct answer because 1.5 goes up and -.5 goes down
i chose answer D because if you add 1 1/2 and subtract 1/2 then your done.
Thanks Natalie! How do you know if your adding or subtracting in D?
i picked D because i think that the (-) is a subtract symbol…and that you subtract 1/2 and thats what i got D.
IF ITS WRONG DONT PUT IT UP 😛
Thanks Sean! What do the arrows tell you about the numbers?
D.) because when you add you have to change the addtion sign to a subtraction sign. when i subtracted, one and a half by negative one and a half i got 0.
Good start Cameron! Do the arrows tell you anything about the numbers?
the answer is D because the 11/2 is positive so the arrow for that should be going up, since of course it’s positive.
The answer for this blog is letter D because you always have to start at 0. Next you go back half and so model D would show the example!
A because if you use logic 1 1/2 + 1/2 is obviously 1
Oh no! Who does this post belong to?
My answer is (D) because you have to start off at positive 1 1/2 which is on the right of the number line. After that you have to subtract 1/2 because adding a negative is the same as subtracting a positive. So 1 1/2 + (-1/2) = 1. And that’s what the answer (D) says.
The correct answer is d. This is because line d shows it going up 1 and a half, then going back 1 half. So the answer is + 1
The answer would be D because i am adding 1 1/2 + -1/2 so i would go up the number line and draw a arrow going to 1 1/2 and then from 1 1/2 i would go down the number line and draw an arrow from 1 1/2 down to 1 because i’m subtracting 1/2 because its a negative so i would bring it down so technically i’m subtracting. That is why the answer would be D !!!
Answer is B
Why do you think the answer is B Eliano? Can you explain how you arrived at your solution?
I would pick A because when i did the math I got 4/4 witch equals 1 whole. And 11/2 is bigger than -1/2.
Thanks Eric! Do the arrows on the number line tell you anything about the numbers? Did you use them to arrive at your solution?
D is the correct answer because the line on the top of D ends at 1 1/2 and then it adds a negative, so basically 1 1/2 minus 1/2 is 1, and the line ends at one.
Good start Josias! How do you know if the the arrows are representing the positive or the negative numbers?
I think the answer would be D because first of all first they are graphing 1 1/2 and its graphing 1 1/2 from 0 to 1 1/2 and since it positive its going to the right. They also graphed -1/2 putting the arrow from 1 to 1 1/2 so it would be 1/2 and the arrow is pointing to the left because it is negative.
A. because you do the math and you would get that answer or I did
Jaydin,
This does not tell me what your answer is OR how you arrived at your solution.
The answer I got was D. I tried solving all the other solutions but D came out to be the only one that was right.
D because you pretty much minus 1/2 from 1 1/2 . So the arrow points at the end answer
I think the answer would be D because 1 1/2 is a positive number and it is going to the positive way, -1/2 is negative and its going to the negative way.
And in -1/2 is on 1/2 and going to the negative sign.
The anwser is D
(D) because + 1 1/2 goes to the right and then – 1/2 goes to the left… so your adding 1 1/12 to 0 and subtracting 1/2 from 1 1/2
the answer would be (B) cause 1 1/2 plus ( -1/20 is 2/4
the correct answer is d because the 1 and a half the number next to it if you add the half you will less then what you have started with.
Positives + Negatives
The right answer is D because the longest arrow correctly shows 1- 1/2, and a positive plus a negative is a negative, so your basically subtracting 1/2 off 1 1/2, which the shortest arrow correctly shows it’self subtracting half.
Samantha B.
D is the correct anser becuase you have to change the fraction into a decimal and the anser d has the correct anser!
Miss Ellsion the answer is D because the 1 1/2 is positive and the arrow is going right to the positive number. The second number is -1/2 and its negative so it would have to be going to the left and it is soo the answer is D. =)=)=)=)=)=)=)=)=)
I think the answer is D because 1 1/2 is positive so the answer is going right to the positive side.
i think the answer is going to be B because when the arrows are crossed like that then it is correct.
The answer is c because first you go right to 1.5 then subtract .5 to get 1. The answer is also not d because you go right first, so the 1.5 is on top
the correct answer is D. because if its 1 and 1 in an half plus (-1 in an half) you start from 0 and go to 1 and 1 in an half and ( – !!!) and go a half back because you turn the negative into minus.
D is the correct answer because 1 1/2 +1/2 =D
The correct answer is D. Positive 1 1/2 + negative 1/2 is the same thing as doing 1 1/2 – 1/2 , and D shows that the long arrow starts at 0 and goes to the right for 1 1/2 in the positive direction and the small arrow goes 1/2 to the left which represents -1/2.
The answer is D because if you use “Same-Change-Change” the
answer will be 1. So if you do use “SCC” the problem would be
written like this: 1 1/2+ (-1/2)= 1 1/2 – 1/2.
DONE!!!!!!!!!
Point Prooven!?
d because your gong right for the positives and left for negitives
d is correct because if you add 1 1/2 to 1/2 you are done
The answer I got was D. I tried solving all the other solutions but D came out to be the only one that was right.
the answer is D, because the line for 1 1/2 is correct and if you add (-1/2) then the line would go back towards the negative area.
D is the correct answer because the number line has arrows on top of it an the first in represents1 1/2 and the second one represents (-1/2)
The answer is d because it goes up 1 1/2 and back 1/2 so it gives the correct answer.
D because you start at zero and 1 1/2, then you take away 1/2 and it leaves you with 1.
