    Challenge: Cargo Shorts

Original Cost: $53.35 after 220% markup

    Target Cost: $37.00 or less

I changed the base material from 100% cotton twill to Cotton /poly, changed the button fly front to zipper fly front, changed the 2 4-button pockets to no pockts. Removed the back pockets and embroidery entirely.

This brought the cost down to $25.08 after markup. I didn’t really think it needed pockets.

    Sincerely Loren T. Elder

the garment I chose for this video is the cheapest garment because they took out the beads and the sleeves to make the price cheaper. the beads were 4.25 now there 3.50.

  17. May 22nd, 2014 at 9:39 pm      Reply ferdinandc2013 Says:

1.You Can Take Out 1 Half a yard of Sleeves Which Equals = 4.50

    1 Half A Yard of Sleeves = $1.50
    $6.00-1.50=$4.50
    2. i Kept The Poly Chiffon Because its cheaper so I Took Away The Beads And The Sewing Labor .

    1 Pack Of Beads = $0.75
    1x Sewing labor = $4.25

    3. I Took All Of the Beads Chiffon and Etc Away Then Added Up The rest of the materials Plus The Markup price .

    4.50
    +1.13
    +3.75
    +0.10
    +0.50
    +2.00
    ________
    10.98

    Buttons 3= .75
    embrioded name .5=.25
    Cutting grading=$4.40
    sewing labor=$8.50 multiplied by 2.2=$42.90

  26. May 23rd, 2014 at 10:39 pm      Reply amymu2013 Says:

I would need to get the dress to be $38.64 so that when the mark up of 220% is done, it is $84.98. I would do this by eliminating the lining and emordery thread. the sewing would be easier because the lining would be gone, so the sewing would cost $9.00 instead of $13.50.

  27. May 24th, 2014 at 3:28 pm      Reply elizabethc2013 Says:

I tried the prom dress challenge. The highest whole sale cost has to be $38.64 because 38.64 x 220% = $85
To lower the cost of making the dress I had to shorten the skirt, remove the petti coat lining and embroidery and change to a plain zipper. It ended up making the price of the dress $66, and it cost $30 to make.

  29. May 24th, 2014 at 10:33 pm      Reply axelr2013 Says:

i got $15.90 by first having 220 over 100 and divide those by 20 and got 11 over 5 w and then 11 over 5 w gets multiplied by its reciprocal and gets canceled and then 35 is now 35 over 1 and is multiplied by 5 over 11 which then is 175 over 11, divide that and you got $15.91 .

  30. May 25th, 2014 at 3:07 pm      Reply Tristan Says:

the cost before markup has to be brought down to 15.91, to do that you have to do 35/220% then you figure out what you can eliminate from the cost you eliminate the lining by eliminating the lining you brought the cost down to 14.73 making the market cost $32.41. i chose the the shorts and i kept the fabric the same but changed the button up to a zipper. i also took off the pockets and the embroidery.

I chose the jacket and took off the hood, the embroidery, the logos, and the buttons. All together I got $53.90. I added the cost of all the things I took off of the jacket and subtracted it from $84.70 and got $53.90 as the total and $53.90 is less than $60.00.

  38. May 29th, 2014 at 6:54 pm      Reply rileyn2013 Says:

I did the prom dress fashion challenge, I reduced the polyester silk yard to 4 yards eliminated the polyester lining which saved on sewing labor which made it look slimmer and we eliminated the embroidery threading that also saved on sewing labor cost, which this reduced the original target price down to $31.00 so 31.00 times the 30 dollar mark up made the retail price of the prom dress less then $85.00.

  39. May 31st, 2014 at 7:42 pm      Reply noahc2013 Says:

Since the wholesale price has to be less than $15.98, I would take off the sleeves and beads which equals $3.00, so $3.00 off $18.48 equals $15.48 for the wholesale. The total would be $34.08. Sorry Im late.
