Disney Maintenance

MM Ferris Wheel

It takes a lot of work to keep Disneyland’s two parks looking top notch. Some of that work is making sure that all the equipment is freshly painted and looking its best. When it comes time to paint the Ferris Wheel, Disneyland maintenance crews need to use a little math to get the job done. The diameter of the Ferris Wheel is 160 feet. They need to paint both of the outside rails of wheel red. How many feet total of red paint will they be painting? Explain how you found your solution.

they would need 1004.8 ft of red paint I found this by using the formula c=pi times d which ended up being 502.4 but multiply that times 2 because they have to paint both of the 2 rails.

    Dear Mrs. Ellison,

What you see on the top are the beginnings of my notes, and helpers that will help you understand what I am doing.

For starters as you can see I am using the normal use of the formulas you taught me. What you also can see, is that I also figured out what everything is in values. Let’s get straight to the point. The answer is…

    502.4 feet.

I figured this out by multiplying 160 by 3.14.

    Thank you for reading this

How I got my answer for the feet of 2 rails is by… taking 20096*2=40192 and that’s the answer for the feet of 2 rails to be painted red 🙂 HAPPY LATE EASTER 🙂

    160 * 3.14 = 502.4 feet * 2 = 1008.8 feet

They need to paint 1008.8 ft because it would go around both sides of the Ferris Wheel and when I was reading this problem I thought I could use the Diameter Operation in our Notes to solve this and I found out the Circumference is 502.4 then multiplied it by two to get around the entire Ferris Wheel.

    106 * 3.14 = 502.4 ft * 2 = 1008.8 feet

The Paint that Maintenance needs is 1008.8 ft to go around the Circumference of this Ferris Wheel and how I solved it was that I used the “If I Know my Diameter” section of my Notes in my Binder to help solve this and then I took my answer and multiplied it by 2 to get 1008.8 feet and then I rewrote it and did it again and surely enough I got 1008.8 ft again and wrote it off as correct.
