Wow! She’s fast!!!!
February9
Watch the video below and then answer the question below it.
At the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, Claudia Pechstein from Germany won the gold medal and set the record in the Women’s 3000m Speed Skating competition with a time of 3:57.70.
The only American to win a medal in the 3000m Speed Skating event since 1976 was Beth Heiden. She won the Bronze Medal at the 1980 Lake Placid games with a time of 4:33.77.
Use math to tell me three pieces of information you figured out about these two speed skaters. Remember to explain how you found the information you are sharing. 🙂
You havet to add eveything together to get the answer of the speed and as fast as you can you havet to add how fast you go.
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
Claudia has an estimation time of 240 seconds because 3.57 is estimated to 4 so I did 4 times 60.
Beth had an estimation time of 270 seconds because she was estimated to 4 which was 240 so she had 4 min 33 sec so I added 30 sec.
The difference between both of their times is 0.76.
Claudias estimation time is 240 sec because 4 times 60 equals 240.
Beths estimation time is 270 because she got 4min 33 sec so I estimated to 240 ,she had 33 sec left so I added that so her estimation time is 270.
The difference between both of their times is 0.76.
Claudia Pechstein won Beth Heiden from 7607. (time) I got this answer by subtracting 35770 and 43377 and got 7607. 😉
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
she has 1,000 more then the there girl
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
Claudia Pecstein was 0:36.07 faster than Beth Heiden, the events are 22 years apart, and Claudia Pechtein went 0.07154m per second . i found this information by subtracting the times, subtracting the years, and dividing 3000 by 3:57.70
I learned that Claudia went 1 meter per 4.3 seconds
and Beth went 5.4 milliseconds in one meter.
So Beth went 1.1 milliseconds faster per meter.
Claudia went 37.07 seconds faster than Beth.
That Is All I conclude other that Beth’s 3rd place took in 1980 and Claudia’s in 2002
what does 3:57.70 mean? i know its 3000m/3:57.70, but is the 3 minutes, hours, seconds, i dont know. then its 3000m/4:33.77, but again, what does the 4:33.77 mean. please tell me then i can figure them out. i know how to put them in to fractions like that because i learned on 2:25.
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
btw the vid was cool
Well, I figured out that Claudia Pechstein went 12.62m/s in her race in 2002, and that Beth Heiden went 10.96m/s in her race in 1980. The next thing I figured out was that Claudia Pechstein skated 1.66m/s faster than Beth Heiden. The last thing that I figured out was that they were both at the Winter Olympics 22 years apart.
——————————————————————————————-
Notes: 1 minute=60 seconds
Rate= distance/time
3000m/237.7s=12.62m/s – Claudia Pechstein
3000m/273.77s=10.96m/s – Beth Heiden
12.62m/s – 10.96m/s = 1.66m/s – Speed Difference
2002 – 1980 = 22 years
——————————————————————————————-
Sincerely Odd,
Loren T. Elder
Claudia finished faster than Beth. Claudia’s rate of speed was higher. The women who competed in 2002 were faster than the women in 1976.
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
1. Claudia skated 28.8mph. 2. Beth skated 24.4mph. 3. Their average speed was 28.8+24.4/2=26.6mph.
#1 & #2 were figured out by rate=distance(meters)/time(seconds)
so m/sec(60sec/min)(60min/hr)(1mile/1609.3m)=mph
beth heiden speed skated 3000m in 4:33.77 minutes
Claudia pechstein speed skating 3000m in 3:57.70 minutes
Claudia skated 36.7 seconds faster than beth
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information. You cannot restate the information I gave you in the assignment.
Claudia Pechstein went about 12.61 meters per second.
Beth Heiden went about 10.79 meters per second.
Claudia Pechstein went about .01261 kilometers per second
you have to add them both up and divide by the number of them
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
1.The only American who got a medal before Claudia was 26 years ago
I subtracted 2002 by 1976
2. In total both times were 8:31.41
I added 3:57.70 and 4:33.77
3. Claudia beat Beth’s score by 1:16.07
I subtracted 4:33.77 by 3:57.70
Sorry I made a mistake in typing the answer for the question number 2 the answer is really 8:31.47
They both have to use calculus To train. They find the average of the skater speed. They use rate(speed)
Felicia l 1 period
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
in the 2002 salt lake city was a german the only american and she won the bronze
Please give me 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
I learned that the winter olympians use math all of the time, and that they always bite their medal for some reason, and I learned these things from the video above.
Please give 3 pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find the information.
Claudia Pechstein went about 13 meters per second. Beth Heiden went about 11 meters per seconds. I figured this out by converting their time to seconds and dividing the meters by their time in seconds. They were 36.07 seconds apart. I found this by using their time in seconds and subtracting.
1)Claudia skates .1192333333m per minute- to find this I did 3,000/357.70.
2)Beth skates 6.9161076146m per minute- to find this I did 3,000/433.77.
3)Beth skates faster than Claudia.
How much faster?
claudia was going about 8m per second and beth was going about 6m per second which means the more m’s per second the more time it takes
Please give 2 more pieces of information about the skaters that you used math to find and how you used math to find that information.
well theres one mathematical term were i did this
3000m
_______ but ill round it up so 3:58 seconds which is 238 seconds
3:57.70 divided by 3000 which is ____
0.0793
🙂
Please give me two more pieces of information you used math to find.
i meant o.o79333 exct.
How many years ago did an American win? Did an American ever win a gold medal? If so who and when?
You need to give me 3 pieces of information that you used math to find out about the skaters. You also need to tell me how you found that information out.
okay so the video showed that math is used in Olympic sports like in speed skating. the three things needed to figure this problem is (1)distance, then divide (2) time which equals the (3) rate (speed)
3000/238 seconds=12.60meters per second vs. 3000/274 seconds=10.94 meters per second.
Amy, you still need to give me two more pieces of info that you can figure out from the data on the skaters.
1.Rate helped me because it showed how to calculate the time he did.
2.The bar graph helped me understand how Ono won because it showed when he needed to increase his speed and why the other guy did it too early.
3.Angles showed me when you should hit the puck instead of going to the side because then you’ll have a lesser chance of making it in.
Where are the 3 things you used math to find about the speed skaters?
The difference is one time is 3:57.70 and the anther one is 4:33.77.that is what I think the difference of them is
I gave you that information in the blog assignment. You need to give me 3 pieces of information and how you used math to find them.
If you add the time you will get the fastest person that’s how you do so the fastest person and it’s 8:38
I am not sure what you mean here. Can you have a look at this again and resubmit?
they are 22 year apart in the games.
claudia went 76.07 faster than beth.
beth went 76.07 slower than claudia
This is only two pieces of info Annaliese. Do you have another bit of info you can share?
1. The last time an American women won a medal was 13 years ago, I subtracted 2014 from 1976. 2. 36.07 seconds was how much faster the German women was than the American women, I subtracted the American time from the German time. 3. The last time for a German women to win a medal was 12 years ago, I subtracted 2014 from 2002. Thanks… I finally it on time. Score! Noah.
Noah, does your answer to #1 make sense to you???
In 2002, claudia pechstien won a gold medal for the woman’s 3000m speed skating with a time of 3:57.70.
The only American to win a bronze medal in the womens 3000m speed skating with time of 4:33.77 set back in 1976
The difference between the two times is 76.7 sec
I read the stuff and got the information there. Then I just found the difference betewwn the two times!
Angel, you need to give me three pieces of information that you used math to find. You cannot give me the information I gave you in the blog…like their times.
the American girl went about 692 of a second for the 3000m. the German girl went about 804 of a second for the 3000m. the German girl went 112 of a second faster than the American girl.
you would divide each time from each other to fine their diffrences….so it would be 1:21 secounds behind one another Cx sorry its like 10 at night late but better do it while i can C;
For the germany time i got 214.62sec/3000m and for the american i got 260.262sec/3000m. I got the germany one by multiplying 60 by 3.577 because the minutes is the 3 and the seconds is the .577 and for that answer I got 214.62 sec. For the american time I multiplied 60 by 4.3377 and when i did that i got 260.262 sec. The answers I got were the germany skater went 1m in .07154 sec and the american skater went 1m in .086754 sec.
Claudia Pearlstein from Germany won a gold medal and set a new record. Claudias Time was 4.33.77. Beth hidden won the bronze medal in 1980.
Chelie, I gave you this information in the blog assignment. You need to use the info and math to tell me specific facts.
1 Claudia Pechstein is better than the other girl by 76.07 seconds. I know this because i subtracted
2. The mean of the two values is 3:88.235 . I know this because i added then divided
3.The faster skater is Claudia Pechstein, i know this by looking at the data
How did you use the data to find #3?
Using calculis the skaters sometimes know to start off slow and then at the end go fast.
Also using rate they know how fast their going.
Finally with rate they know the distance their traveling per second.
Natalee, please use math to give me specific information from the data you have on the skaters.
germany’s time is larger than america’s time. germanys time is 3:57.70. and americas time was 4:30.77.
1. Beth was 0.76 seconds slower than Claudia ( 4.33-3.57=0.76)
2. Claudia was 0.76 seconds faster than Beth ( 4.33-3.57=0.763) 3. The average speed between the two of them is 3000m
———
3.95s
oops imeant 3000m/3.95s is the average ( 4.33+3.57=7.90/2=3.95
Beth and Claudia were 22 years apart from one Olympics to the other. Claudia was 76 seconds faster than Beth. I also found out that if Beth had done 1000m speed skating at the same speed she would have done it in 1.44.59 minuets
One Minute = 60 seconds Rate= distance & The time
1. Claudia skated 28.8mph.
2. Beth skated 24.4mph.
3. Their average speed was 28.8+24.4/2=26.6mph.
Beth Skated Faster than Claudia
3000m divided 237.7s would equal 12.62 m this is for claudia
pechstein. 3000m divided 27.3s would equal 109.6m seconds for beth heiden.
-Claudia Pechstein went about 12.61 meters per second.
-Beth Heiden went about 10.79 meters per second.
-Claudia Pechstein went about .01261 kilometers per second.
Beth Heiden was 36.07 seconds slower than Claudia Pechstein. That is 147.08 meters. The events are 22 years apart
1. Claudia skates 0.1192333333m per minute I got this by doing 3,000/357.70 .
2. Beth skates 6.9161076146m per minute I got this by doing 3,000/433.77.
3. Beth skates faster than Claudia.
sorry it was late 🙁 my sister helped sooo I don’t know if its right
Claudia was 76.07 seconds faster than Beth. I figured that out by subtraction.
If you change the minutes to seconds and round up, Claudia finished in 238 seconds. Beth finished in 274 seconds.
Dividing 3,000 by 238 shows the rate of 12.6 meters per second. Dividing 3,000 by 274 gives a rate of 10.9 meters per second.
you have to find the speed and divide the distance and the time then you add it
the woman that was the fastest woman to beat the record with a 3.57.70
Caludia Pechstein = 12.6 per second
Beth heiden = 10.79 per second
3000/3:57.7 3000/4:33.77
the German went 12.6 meters /per second
the American went 10.8 meters /per second
this also shows how much faster the German was than the American 12.6-10.8 = 1.8 meters/ per second faster
Claudia went faster than Beth by 0:36.07, The only other American to get a gold medal was 26 years ago. it happened 22 years from each other
Claudia went one meter in 4.3 seconds and Beth went one meter in 5.4 milliseconds so Claudia won the race
1)Claudia skates .1192333333m per minute: I found this by doing 3,000/357.70.
2)Beth skates 6.9161076146m per minute: I found this by doing 3,000/433.77.
3)Beth skates faster than Claudia
This is my three pieces of infomation.
Claudia won Beth from 7607 time .I got this answer by (-)35770 and 43377 so i got 7607
Claudia Pechstein went about 12.61 meters per second. Beth Heiden went about 10.79 meters per second. Claudia Pechstein went about .01261 kilometers per second
Claudia Pechstein= 12.61 meters per second.
Beth Heiden= 10.79 meters per second.
Claudia Pechstein = .01261 kilometers per second
They played 22 years apart, Claudia Pechstein went 76.07 seconds faster then Beth Heiden. Claudia did for every 1 meter it took her 4.3 seconds.
Dear Mrs. Ellison I’m so sorry this was late.
Beth Heiden was faster than Claudia Pechstein by 0.76.07. Claudia went 0.079 meters per second and Beth went 0.091 meters per second. I found this out by subtracting their times. I also found out dividing their times by 3000.
Claudia was 1:16.07 seconds fathers than Beth
4:33.77-3:57.70=1:16.07
Races were 22 years apart
2002-1976=22
Claudia is from Germany and Beth is from America
Claudia Pechstein went about 13 meters per second. Beth Heiden went about 11 meters per seconds. I figured this out by converting their time to seconds and dividing the meters by their time in seconds. They were 36.07 seconds apart. I found this by using their time in seconds and subtracting. I did this over again because I saw your comment. Thanks
Thanks Angel! I have adjusted your grade. 🙂
cdlaudia was 1min 16sec faster then beth because when you take all of these then add them or grab them and divide them.
1. Claudia skates 0.1192333333m per minute I got this by doing 3,000/357.70 .
2. Beth skates 6.9161076146m per minute I got this by doing 3,000/433.77.
3. Beth skates faster than Claudia.
Claudia had beatten Beth by 7607… You’ll get this this answer by doing: 43,377 – 35,770 = 7,607.
I am sorry that this was late.
By the way, The colors are cool. 😉
claudia was 76.07 mps faster than beth
the games are atleast 22 years apart
jordyn h
claudia pechstien went about 12.60 meters per sec
beth heiden went about 10.80 meters per sec
claudia pechstien went went about .01261 kilometers per second
i found my answers by subtracting 4.33 to each problem/equation
Well since the girl from America has been practicing for a long time she still wasn’t faster than the girl from Germany because the girl from America was 76.07 more than the girl from Germany.
The girl from America was from 1980 and the girl from Germany was from 2002 so there was some improvements over time.
They both skated 300m but the girl from America got a higher time than the girl from Germany.
Claudia was 1:16.07 seconds fathers than Beth 4:33.77-3.57.70=1:16.07

Claudia skates 19.62m.
Oh no! Who does this belong to?
Beth skates 10.96.
Claudia skates 19.62.
Beth skates faster than Claudia by 1.66 miles.
1)math is part of every jump, every spin, every move the skaters make.
2)Claudia is from Germany.
3)Beth is from America.
You havet to add eveything together to get the answer of the speed and as fast as you can you havet to add how fast you go.
I mean have to
One Minute = 60 seconds Rate= distance & The time
1. Claudia skated 28.8mph.
2. Beth skated 24.4mph.
3. Their average speed was 28.8+24.4/2=26.6mph.
Beth Skated Faster than Claudia
3000m divided 237.7s would equal 12.62 m this is for claudia
pechstein. 3000m divided 27.3s would equal 109.6m seconds for beth heiden.
One Minute = 60 seconds Rate= distance & The time

you have to get the speed and then divide it to get the answer
1. both Beth and Claudia were 76 seconds and 7 milliseconds apart because I subtracted their times.
2.Beth and Caudia’s records were 22 years apart. I got this by subtracting Claudia;s year (2002) and Beth’s year (1980)
3.they both skated for 3000m
beth skates faster than claudia by 1.66m
