Wow! She’s fast!!!!

February9

Watch the video below and then answer the question below it.

At the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, Claudia Pechstein from Germany won the gold medal and set the record in the Women’s 3000m Speed Skating competition with a time of 3:57.70.

The only American to win a medal in the 3000m Speed Skating event since 1976 was Beth Heiden. She won the Bronze Medal at the 1980 Lake Placid games with a time of 4:33.77.

Use math to tell me three pieces of information you figured out about these two speed skaters. Remember to explain how you found the information you are sharing. 🙂

Claudia has an estimation time of 240 seconds because 3.57 is estimated to 4 so I did 4 times 60.

Beth had an estimation time of 270 seconds because she was estimated to 4 which was 240 so she had 4 min 33 sec so I added 30 sec.

The difference between both of their times is 0.76.

Claudias estimation time is 240 sec because 4 times 60 equals 240.

Beths estimation time is 270 because she got 4min 33 sec so I estimated to 240 ,she had 33 sec left so I added that so her estimation time is 270.

The difference between both of their times is 0.76.

Well, I figured out that Claudia Pechstein went 12.62m/s in her race in 2002, and that Beth Heiden went 10.96m/s in her race in 1980. The next thing I figured out was that Claudia Pechstein skated 1.66m/s faster than Beth Heiden. The last thing that I figured out was that they were both at the Winter Olympics 22 years apart.

    ——————————————————————————————-
    Notes: 1 minute=60 seconds

    Rate= distance/time

    3000m/237.7s=12.62m/s – Claudia Pechstein
    3000m/273.77s=10.96m/s – Beth Heiden

    12.62m/s – 10.96m/s = 1.66m/s – Speed Difference

    2002 – 1980 = 22 years

    ——————————————————————————————-

    Sincerely Odd,

    Loren T. Elder

Well since the girl from America has been practicing for a long time she still wasn’t faster than the girl from Germany because the girl from America was 76.07 more than the girl from Germany.
The girl from America was from 1980 and the girl from Germany was from 2002 so there was some improvements over time.
They both skated 300m but the girl from America got a higher time than the girl from Germany.

One Minute = 60 seconds Rate= distance & The time

    1. Claudia skated 28.8mph.
    2. Beth skated 24.4mph.
    3. Their average speed was 28.8+24.4/2=26.6mph.

    Beth Skated Faster than Claudia

3000m divided 237.7s would equal 12.62 m this is for claudia
pechstein. 3000m divided 27.3s would equal 109.6m seconds for beth heiden.
