Dear Math Maggie,
I went shopping on Black Friday and got some really great deals on Christmas presents. One of the deals was on a flatscreen TV from Target. The original price of the TV was $799 and it was marked down 30% for Black Friday. Before sales tax, the TV rang up at $639.20. It was a crazy night and I am unsure whether I actually received my 30% discount on the TV. Was I ripped off or did I get the deal that was advertised?

you were ripped off because $799 with a $30 mark down isnt $639.20 its actually $559.30.

you got ripped off because when you do 10% of 799$ that would be 79.90$ then you add those up three times and you should get 239.70$. then you subtract 799.00$ to 239.70$ which is 559.90$ and that’s the price she should’ve payed. instead of getting 30% off she got 20% off instead.
Yes mrs. Ellison. You got ripped off because if you were to do all the math, at the end, with all the sales tax and stuff, the tv would cost you $622.00 dollars.

yes because i multiplied by 30 and have of 800 would have been 400 but i got 239

i think you got your discount on the tv because the brice was marked down by about $160.00.

so find what 30% of $799 is ($ 239.70 ) and subtract that from $799 $799.00 – $239.70= $559.30 so you did get ripped off and you got ripped off by $79.90
Well first you multiply $799 by 0.3 and that gives you $239.70. Then you subtract $239.70 to $799 which gives you $559.30. In the end, YOU WERE RIPPED OFF!!!!!

As you can see, I got your answer. It was a rip off! If you look at it you got a 20% markdown and you lost $79.90 to a fake markdown.(799*0.2=159.8 799-159.8=639.2=$639.20)
