Tillman the Bulldog (MATH 7)

November3

Watch the video of Tillman the English Bulldog, the Guinness World Record holder for fastest Dog on a Skateboard.

1. At the conclusion of the video a classmate takes out a calculator and says, “Wow! That was amazing! That means the dog went about 5 meters per second!” Is your classmate correct? How do you know?

2. After seeing this video, another dog owner trained his dog, Lightening, to try and break Tillman’s skateboarding record. Lightening’s fastest recorded time was on a 75 meter stretch where it took him 15.5 seconds. Based on this data, did Lightening break Tillman’s record for fastest dog on a skateboard? Explain how you know.

  1. November 4th, 2013 at 12:29 pm      Reply gabrielr2013 Says:

yes because hi did it in 20 sc

    because 15.5 and other did’t in 16.4

  2. November 4th, 2013 at 12:29 pm      Reply bryanl2013 Says:

    1. yes because he did it in 20 seconds

2.because 15.5 and the other dog did it in in 16.4

  3. November 4th, 2013 at 3:07 pm      Reply oliviaka2013 Says:

    Yes

Yes lightning got a faster score cause the other dogs time was about
20 seconds and lightning got 15.5

  4. November 4th, 2013 at 3:21 pm      Reply margaritop2013 Says:

well they said that the dog only 19.7 seconds and so they rouned it to 20 secondsso yeah he broke his record for fastest dog to ride a skate board.

  5. November 4th, 2013 at 5:04 pm      Reply benjaminga2013 Says:

the student was right, I know because Tillman went 100 meters in 20 seconds so 100 divided by 20 is 5 so 5 meters per second lightening was slower than Tillman and I know because 75 meters to 100 meters is 5 sets of 5 meters if it is 1 second per 5 meters then you would subtract 5 seconds from Tillman’s time and compare the two numbers Tillman=14.678 and Lightening=15.5

  6. November 4th, 2013 at 5:51 pm      Reply ferdinandc2013 Says:

    1. Correct because… The Dog Ran 100 Meter For 20 Seconds And if You Divide 100 Into 20 Is 5 Meters. So Which Means The Dog Ran 5 Meters per Second.

    2. Tillman Is Still The Faster Dog because He Runs 5 Meters For Second While Lightening’s Runs 4.8 per second.

    75/15.5=4.8 meters per second

  7. November 5th, 2013 at 12:42 pm      Reply noelj2013 Says:

    He he is correct
The dog did it in in 20 sec lighting did it in 15.5 sec

  8. November 5th, 2013 at 9:04 pm      Reply Tristan Says:

    1. the student was correct because if it took the dog about 20 sec then 100/20= 5.

    2.75 + 25= 100, 25/5= 5 sec, 15.5sec +5.0= 20.5sec so lighting was not as fast as tillman he was .5 sec off.

  9. November 6th, 2013 at 12:43 pm      Reply JenniferM.2013 Says:

No Because hes answer was 19. something and it dosent go evenly into 5. Lightening did beat tillmans score because lightening got 15.5 and tillman got 19. something.

  10. November 6th, 2013 at 2:45 pm      Reply garretc2013 Says:

yes my class mate is correct because they even say on the video that it is correct. tillman’s did not win because he wasnt fast enountgh

  11. November 6th, 2013 at 3:07 pm      Reply brianab2013 Says:

    1. Yes the class mate is correct cause at the end of the video he said it was.
    2. Yes Lightening did break Tillman’s world record cause 15.5 (seconds) is less than 20 (seconds)

  12. November 6th, 2013 at 5:50 pm      Reply Hannah m Says:

foe the first one is because they timed the dog riding the skateboard.
foe the second one is 23 seconds. because you add 75 and 15.5 and i got 23.0 so it would be 23.0.

  13. November 6th, 2013 at 7:02 pm      Reply alexandrat2013 Says:

1)yes the classmate is correct, and how i know is the tillans time was 15.7 or 19.7 seconds (i cant understand him when he says the time) so 15.7 or 19.7 sec. +5 meters = 20.7 or 24.7.

    2) i cant answer this because i dont know if the time of tillan was 15.7 or 19.7.

75+1.5= 80 seconds on the skat barod

  15. November 7th, 2013 at 12:51 pm      Reply noahr2013 Says:

on the first one he was right because i devided and ended up with 5. and on the second the lightning bulldog was slower because i devided and ended up with a higher number.

  16. November 7th, 2013 at 2:37 pm      Reply seths2013 Says:

yes because its going by 5 and its a common ratio

  17. November 7th, 2013 at 2:38 pm      Reply Thomas s Says:

No tillmen did not break his record his time was 19.67 seconds. He didnt brake it because he was on a hundred meter not a 75 meter.

    thomas s

  18. November 7th, 2013 at 2:38 pm      Reply tevinf2013 Says:

    yes,because you times 5×50=100

    no ,because 15.5meters

  19. November 7th, 2013 at 5:23 pm      Reply rileyn2013 Says:

No the boy isn’t correct because it was 1 meter per second and the equation is y over x where y equal distance and x equals time. Lightening broke Tillmans record because Tillmans was 20 seconds and Lightening was 15 seconds.

  20. November 7th, 2013 at 5:59 pm      Reply brisar2013 Says:

i think my class mate was right because in the video the man said the dogs speed

i think the dog lighting did break the record because 5×15=75 and thats 5 meters per hour so tillman and lighting are maybe the same

p.s. Mrs Ellison i lost my on core book so i cant do my home work it was in my backpack and now its gone so yeah no home work from me tomorrow sorry πŸ™

    1. no he\she is not right because when I divided 19 and 5 I got 3.8 and I rounded it to 4.
    2. Yes he did because when I divided 75 and 15.5 it equal 4.8387….. and I round it to 5. -Nathaniel ndolo

  22. November 7th, 2013 at 8:01 pm      Reply faroughs2013 Says:

    1. It is correct

    2. Lightening is the fastest bescause it has 75 meters.

  23. November 8th, 2013 at 1:41 pm      Reply kylief2013 Says:

i would now by multiplying my problom

  24. November 8th, 2013 at 3:36 pm      Reply Anonymous Says:

    1. If it was 5 meters a second apart from 100 meters from the video then when u divide 100 by 5 you get 20 then divide by 5 again and u get 4

    2. Both?, Tillman on a 100 Meter stretch would’ve taken him slower if it was curved! If it was straight then he could go faster and be lower than that time

  25. November 8th, 2013 at 3:39 pm      Reply brandonc2013 Says:

    1. If he did 5 meters on a 100 meter stretch then it would’ve taken him about 4 meters per second actually to do that stretch and my classmate was off by 1 Meter

    2. No, Tillman in the video kept up with the skateboarder and went ahead til he finished. So Lightening didnt beat Tillmans record

  26. November 8th, 2013 at 3:42 pm      Reply deijac2013 Says:

lightening did not break the record because tillman got about 19 seconds and lightening got 15.5 seconds. My classmate would not be correct bacause if it was 5 meters per second it wouldnt add up because he got about 19 seconds.

  27. November 9th, 2013 at 1:53 pm      Reply hunter y Says:

    1. no the dog might of gone 10 meters per second.
    2.yes, because Tilman’s dog went 19.678 and lightningwent 15.5

  28. November 10th, 2013 at 8:15 am      Reply isabellav2013 Says:

    1. My classmate is right because in the end of the video, when they announced his time, (19.67 seconds) they rounded off to the nearest ten, so Tillman’s time was 20 seconds.
    2. Yes because if you round to the nearest one, the time is only 16 seconds. So Lightening broke Tillman’s record.

  29. November 10th, 2013 at 3:10 pm      Reply robbertj2013 Says:

    yes the classmate is rite
yes lightnings time was faster than tillmans

  30. November 11th, 2013 at 8:58 pm      Reply richards2013 Says:

my classmate is incorrect because 19.678 is 3.967 which rounded equals 4 meters per second.

Lightning did break Tillman’s record because if you add 25 to 75 equals 100 and if you multiply .25 times 15.5 it equals 3.875 which added together it equals 19.375

  31. November 12th, 2013 at 7:36 am      Reply gabriellej2013 Says:

yes because he made it with in 20 secounds.no because it was 5 seconds off (20.5).

  32. November 12th, 2013 at 7:42 am      Reply ardenp2013 Says:

2-tillman still beat lighting because he got 20 and lighting got 15.5 so tillman beated lighting

  36. November 12th, 2013 at 9:29 pm      Reply markc2013 Says:
