Maths Maggie

October17

Dear Maths Maggie,

I am very confused about time.  My teacher says playtime is at a quarter past 10 and lunch is at half past 12. She also said that our Maths test will take three quarters of an hour.  I don’t see any fractions on the clock so what on earth is she talking about?!? Can you please explain so I can understand this funny time my teacher keeps talking about?

Kind regards,

Time to Study

    dear time to study
she is actually talking about minutes. quarter past is fifteen minutes past. quarter to is fifteen minutes to the next hour and half past is thirty minutes past . the fractions are just how far the minute arrow is past the hour or before

3 quarters of an hour is 45 mins. because 1 quarters is 15 mins 2 quarters is 30 mins and 3 quarters is 45 mins. on the clock 1 quarter is 15 mins

if a quarter of in hour is 15 min and 30 min is half an hour then 45 min must be three quarters of in hour.

    Dear Time to Study

If you know how much a quater is you can add the 3 quaters together and find out the answer which is 45.

    dear person
Time is so easy because the big hand is the minute and small hand hour and the one that ticks every second well is the the second.
Now you know what time is at school and home!!! OMG
